If you are not listening to Sam Smith, just stop existing, because you are MISSING OUT on a true talent. I just recently got latched onto this guy and I am slapping myself for not finding him sooner. But it looks like I have found him just in time. His new album “In the Lonely Hour” is being released in June and I am now officially counting down the days (54 left…)
Of course he’s British, and has a falsetto that would make Chris Martin run for the hills. His piano heavy melodies and sultry voice could seriously sing me to sleep forever.
Mr. Smith first caught my attention when I heard the song “Latch” by the electronic group Disclosure. Sam Smith sings the vocals on the song and provides a gorgeous and sexy repertoire of emotions to the over 4 minute long track. Watch the video… there’s hot guys and making out involved…
“Stay With Me”, one of the singles off his upcoming album is nothing short of elegantly beautiful. The powerful and raw lyrics leave you literally breathless. “Why am I so emotional, no its not a good look, gain some self control” are the harsh words sung by Sam himself. The song gives a strict portrayal of what seems like modern day love. A man admitting he’s not good at a one night stand ( “Guess it’s true, I’m not good at a one-night stand”) but needs love in his life, because he is only human ( “But I still need love cause I’m just a man.”) Smith later sings “This ain’t love it’s clear to see, but darling, stay with me” further proving modern day love and how hard it is for us to justify the physical and emotional elements of a relationship. The song goes on to become a love letter to a lover simply saying “Won’t you stay with me cause you’re all I need.”
Just cue the tears.
Sam Smith is a serious force to be reckoned with and a threat to anyone who has ever opened their mouth to sing a note. I think it’s safe to call him the “Male Adele”.
