I’ve been a fan of Cailin Russo for a couple of years now. Not only is she a stellar solo artist but also the frontwoman of the band, obviously named, Russo. In between band hiatus’, Cailin has released solo music that emulates a young Amy Winehouse.
Russo’s latest single, “Fade” is one of her best to date. Pulling on traditional alternative sounds and melodies, Russo pulls out all the stops on this one.
The chorus provides a powerful declaration as Russo sings, “I’m not guilty for my mistakes. I’m not proud of what we made, I just try to mean what I say. You just watch me fade away.” Honest lyrics and raspy vocals seem to compliment eachother so well on this track. Russo explains the song saying, “It’s my favorite song I’ve ever done. It literally brings me to tears...The song literally describes someone watch you deteriorate as a human and not doing anything about it.”

Wednesday night marked the return of Billie Eilish after the massive success of her debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
The singer turned to social media to tease the new single saying, “dis one is special to me, I’ll tell you why soon”. Not only does the song follow suit to some of Billie’s past hits but follows the same flow as well. In her classic hushed alto tone, the singer speaks, “I had a dream, I got everything i wanted, not what you’d think, and if I’m being honest, it might’ve been a nightmare, to anyone who might care.”
The song is an homage to the dark side of fame while simultaneously showing love to her brother and co-producer FINNEAS. Although it’s ominous and bleak, this is the Billie Eilish I love and cherish; lulled tones that feel very Lorde-esque and always poetic. Eilish takes her fans straight down the path to her heart – no questions asked.

It’s easy for me to say Coldplay is hands down the most consistent band I’ve ever witnessed. Not only do they stay true to themselves, but they manage to keep innovating their sound as music and society changes. Since I’m a massive Coldplay fan, I guess I’m a little biased but I can’t get over how timeless their discography is. Not one miss exists in their repertoire and that’s not something a lot of bands can say (yes, I love the Ghost Stories album and found it incredibly poignant in the best way possible).
Recently, the band announced a new album, Everyday Life, out November 22nd. With this news came a couple of new tracks titled, “Orphans”, “Arabesque” and later on, “Everyday Life”.
In a recent interview, the Coldplay frontman Chris Martin explained the inspiration behind the bouncy track “Orphans“, saying, “We’d been thinking so much about all these kids in refugee camps who are just like us…And really they’re human people just like everyone else, and we were thinking about particularly the young people who’ve been displaced, who just want to go home and be normal just like everybody else.” The lyrics convey the message quite clearly as Martin joyously sings, “I want to know when I can go, Back and get drunk with my friends, I want to know when I can go, Back and be young again.” The single features Coldplay’s classic repetitive guitar riffs and a chant-like chorus to top it all off – reminiscent of any track off of their 2015 album A Head Full Of Dreams.
New single “Arabesque” sounds similar to a Viva La Vida track, specifically “Violet Hill”. Horns and a punchy drum highlight the marching undertones of the track. While “Everyday Life” couldn’t be more beautiful if it tried. Echoing Coldplay’s never ending themes of unity and love, the song discusses how we as humans are all the same in so many ways. Martin sings, “everyone hurts, everyone cries, everyone tells eachother all kinds of lies, everyone falls, everybody dreams and doubts.” A piano melody keeps the song in a pretty mellow state – another Coldplay speciality. This song strikes a nostalgic chord for me. It feels like old school Coldplay but still new and relevant. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.
Retro chords and galactic beats seem to be Tame Impala’s speciality… and damn, he (Kevin Parker) does it so well. It’s hard to pin down what genre Parker fits into and that’s what makes him spectacular.

“It Might Be Time” is Parker’s third single this year. The song comes with the announcement of Tame Impala’s upcoming 2020 album (titled The Slow Rush) and tour. Parker said in a recent Instagram post, “I’m so excited for touring next year and beyond with a new show and new album of songs.” He also clarified the meaning behind the new track, saying, “Enjoy this quirky new song about your own inner paranoid thoughts telling you you’ve lost your mojo…”
The bouncy track features lyrics like, “I’m only tired of all these voices, always sayin nothing lasts forever” and “it might be time to face it, nobody knows what you’ve come here for”. After his explosive 2015 album, Currents, Parker has a lot of pressure to make his next full length project just as alluring and enticing as his last. The latest singles are surely headed in the right direction.
