ZAYN.

A rugged unshaven Zayn Malik is seen brushing noses with blonde bombshell/model Gigi Hadid. Their hands travel and Hadid smirks at her man. Their sensual caresses highlight every sexual innuendo heard in Malik’s first solo single to the world, “Pillowtalk”.

The lyrics are poetic, raw, sexy, and honest. Everything we wanted to hear from Zayn, something different and true to himself. He creates an entire world out of one place; a bed. “So we’ll piss off the neighbours, in the place that feels the tears, the place to lose your fears.” Zayn’s voice is as flawless as we remember, he makes every note sound just as exquisite as the next. Although this is a pop song, it’s very different from a top 40 1D single as the video also portrays; artistic creations show naked bodies, paint, beautiful visual effects, and more. Malik experiments with more R&B sounds on “Pillowtalk”, something that suits him very well. If this is any indication of what the rest of this new Zayn chapter sounds like, then bring it on, I’m ready.

Malik’s debut solo album, Mind of Mine comes out March 25. Mark your calendars.

If there’s one thing we all know about Sia, it’s that she knows how to make you feel. Her latest single, “Unstoppable” is your new power anthem. She chants, “I don’t need batteries to play, I’m so confident, yeah, I’m unstoppable today.” Her voice shines in this song, as it always does. Every note sounds impeccable and the beat compliments her perfectly. The pounding drums make this song movie-score ready at any moment. Much like her other single, “Alive”, “Unstoppable” proves that Sia’s new album This Is Acting will be all about self-empowerment. Sounds good to me. January 29 can’t get here fast enough…

Rapper Mac Miller recruits Miguel for his foot-stomping anthem, “Weekend” off his album GO:OD AM. Miller talks it out on each verse, while Miguel croons behind the beat. The chorus chants, “But I be good by the weekend, I be good by the weekend, everything good by the weekend.” Ain’t that the truth? Miller swears off his ex throughout the song; poppin’ pills, drinking bottles, then the weekend comes and he feels better. Miguel adds a sultry R&B layer, as he usually does with every piece of music he slides onto. An unlikely pair sure make this song worth your time.

The 1975: A Neon Dream

Whether it’s their impeccable aesthetic on Instagram, their overly drug-infused lyrics, or their fake postings about breaking up; The 1975 are a pure neon dream. If you look up “neon” in the dictionary, you might find this definition: “of, relating to, or characteristic of a tawdry urban district or of gaudy nighttime entertainment.” Almost a complete description of The 1975. Coincidence? I think not…

For the past two months or so, they have been teasing their sophomore album, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It with pink hued neon signs with what looks to be the titles of songs off the album. Each one is set against a beautifully haunting backdrop making you beg for more answers as to what they mean. As of today, 12/9 we have 11, which could almost be the full track listing. “R U MINE (SteLouse Remix)” is a lyrically driven dance track. The vocals are feminine and captivating. Rozes sings, “I’m terrified to tell you what’s on my mind, but it eats me up, there’s a reason why I keep it all inside.” “MINE” couldn’t be more beautiful especially the heavenly chorus, pounding beat and don’t forget that DROP. Thick bass plague’s this song in the most appealing way. Verses almost serve as hymns to a story about confusion and insecurity in a relationship. Pleading vocals truly make this song as epic as it is. It’s becoming more and more clear that lyrically driven dance tunes make a serious mark in the heads of music fans.
