“Ocean Eyes” is just that; a romantic blue hued ode to love. “Can’t stop staring at those ocean eyes,” utters newcomer Billie Eilish. Her nonchalant syllables and steady quick tap beat make you wish you were in love. She highlights the beauty of falling in love with someone through the eyes to the soul. That’s a deep theme from a 14-year-old girl. Eilish recently told Vogue her brother wrote “Ocean Eyes”; “He came into my room in October of last year to tell me he had this song called “Ocean Eyes.” He’d been doing it with his band before, but of course I’d heard it because I was right next door. I sang it, and we both loved it.” She went on to say, “I loved it and I couldn’t get it out of my head for weeks.” A poetic homage to love painted by a 14-year-old, how amazing is music?

If there’s one thing we all know about Sia, it’s that she knows how to make you feel. Her latest single, “Unstoppable” is your new power anthem. She chants, “I don’t need batteries to play, I’m so confident, yeah, I’m unstoppable today.” Her voice shines in this song, as it always does. Every note sounds impeccable and the beat compliments her perfectly. The pounding drums make this song movie-score ready at any moment. Much like her other single, “Alive”, “Unstoppable” proves that Sia’s new album This Is Acting will be all about self-empowerment. Sounds good to me. January 29 can’t get here fast enough…

“R U MINE (SteLouse Remix)” is a lyrically driven dance track. The vocals are feminine and captivating. Rozes sings, “I’m terrified to tell you what’s on my mind, but it eats me up, there’s a reason why I keep it all inside.” “MINE” couldn’t be more beautiful especially the heavenly chorus, pounding beat and don’t forget that DROP. Thick bass plague’s this song in the most appealing way. Verses almost serve as hymns to a story about confusion and insecurity in a relationship. Pleading vocals truly make this song as epic as it is. It’s becoming more and more clear that lyrically driven dance tunes make a serious mark in the heads of music fans.
