After her 2018 exquisite album, The Color of You, Alina Baraz is back in 2020 with a new album releasing on May 5th. The album titled, It Was Divine is bound to be another collection of high-shined musical diamonds.
The songstress just released her latest single titled “Morocco” where she details the sensual parts of a steamy romance. A beachy backdrop places sultry imagery within the single – making it ready for summer 2020. Baraz sweetly sings, “my favorite view is me covered in you, nothing but my perfume, oh I love the taste of you.” Her voice is angelic as always as every note swiftly glides out of her lips like it was meant to leave all along.
A soothing backbeat and elevated chimes make “Morocco” even more lush and romantic – something Baraz is an expert on (listen to recent single “Trust”). 6LACK hops onto the track for a thicker R&B sound as his voice expertly fits into Baraz’s like a final puzzle piece.
Fans haven’t heard a new Phantogram album since 2016’s emotionally heavy, Three (listen to “Answer” and “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore”) The NY natives recently announced their new album titled, Ceremony will be released on March 6. An 11 song track list was also revealed.
Leading the album is new single “Pedestal”. A raw story of a crumbling relationship while questioning a confirmation of love. Lead singer, Sarah Barthel belts on the chorus “Cause I was in love with you, is that what you’re supposed to do? When I put you on this pedestal.” The metaphor is so crystal clear while the song is flooded with classic Phantogram musical characteristics. Barthel’s vocals are poignant and indie as ever, while a heavy drum beat pounds through the chorus. The phrase “you can make a hospital lovely” is repeated throughout the song as another metaphor; a strong one at that. While the phrase is short and sweet, it speaks volumes to someone’s character.
After delaying their upcoming album, Notes On A Conditional Form, The 1975 have given us a song to chew on while we wait for the big feast. After their latest politically charged singles, this track surprisingly turned out to be a love song…with a twist. Lead singer, Matty describes falling in love with a woman who doesn’t feel the same way about him. He sweetly sings, “I fell in love with her in stages, my whole life.” While the sentiment is somewhat sad, The 1975 manages to keep the beat bouncy and light – like a good pop song should be. Much like their older debut album tracks (“Sex”, “Chocolate”, “The City”), the guitar takes a front seat throughout the entire song – making it feel more punk and nostalgic.
The thing I love most about this track is how the lyrics are sung and woven throughout. Matty continues sentences for a whole verse making them feel poetic when they really should be choppy; not many artists can do this so cohesively. Incorporating a cheeky conversation into the song adds a fine layer of storytelling we don’t often hear in mainstream music; “She said my references were spot on (Spot on) ‘Can I take you for a drink?’ She said, ‘Oh God, I have to think because we’re mates, it doesn’t feel right'” I could listen to this song all day and not get sick of it.
I’m absolutely thrilled to hear more songs off the upcoming album.
Tame Impala – After the release of new singles, “It Might Be Time”, “Borderline”, and “Posthumous Forgiveness” Tame Impala fans are prepared for this long-awaited album.
Justin Bieber– Not only is the pop star releasing a new album but also starting a tour, and dropping a docu-series on his life the past couple of years. Let’s hope his new music can live up to the masterpiece that is his 2015 album, Purpose.

Zedd – The EDM producer and hit maker recently addressed new music by answering a tweet from a fan. The message read, “it’s been 5 years since your last album Zedd please stop playing”. He simply replied saying, “2020”.
Sam Smith – This crooner sure had some major highs in 2019, starting with owning their sexuality and embracing their own femininity. “Dancing With A Stranger” and “How Do You Sleep?” showed Smith’s strong pop/dance side. Something we’re bound to hear more of in 2020.
Rihanna – This is a huge question mark because the queen herself won’t even tell us when the album is coming. But we can hope and pray it’ll be in our ears this year.
Normani – After a massive 2019, fans are ready for the solo album by the ex- Fifth Harmony member. She’s disclosed the album will be 14 tracks and “very dynamic.”
Demi Lovato – The pop singer has been teasing new music via social media giving fans quick glimpses of her in the studio. And after her recent breakup, a new song is surely to hit the airwaves soon…
Dua Lipa – “Don’t Start Now” catapulted Dua back onto the pop charts this year. Not to mention showed off a new retro pop sound we haven’t heard much of since the 70’s. The album is appropriately titled, Future Nostalgia.

Halsey – With a busy 2019, it’s hard to believe there’s more to come from Halsey, but there is. Her new album, Manic will be released January 17th and will feature hit singles “Graveyard”, and “Without Me”

Russ – After the surprising success of his saucy single “BEST ON EARTH”, Russ is focused on a new album titled, Shake The Snow Globe, coming out January 31st. He’s also headlining a North American tour starting in May.
Hayley Williams – The Paramore front-woman recently announced in a birthday social media post that she’ll be releasing solo musicin January of 2020. As Paramore fans know, the band has been through many ups and downs in the past decade, with Ms. Williams always landing on her feet. I couldn’t be more excited to hear what she has to say.

The 1975 – After pushing back the release date for this new project, The 1975 fans can hopefully listen to Notes On A Conditional Form on February 21st. If not, then Matty Healy is probably just making more finishing touches to perfect what you’re about to hear.
