WHO: FINNEAS

WHERE: Los Angeles, CA

GENRE: Pop

TOP SONG: “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night”

While searching for “FINNEAS” on Spotify, you might find his artist page and feel inclined to read his “about” where he honestly writes “Bios are boring”. Not only is this a testament to FINNEAS’ overall view on the music industry but also deconstructs the notion that listeners should just care about the music and nothing else.

On his latest single, “Angel” a gentle piano guides the song into a lovely ode to his girlfriend, Claudia. He dedicated another song to her appropriately titled “Claudia” earlier this year. There’s no doubt love is on the brain, but FINNEAS also took the time to write a song about losing a best friend on “I Lost A Friend“. He opened up in regards to this change of pace saying, “I’ve made a lot of music covering romantic relationships and a lot covering family but I’d never been able to articulate what it feels like to lose a friend until now.” The song is a raw look into a meaningful friendship and how sad it is when it’s gone. “I’ll be fine without him, but all I do is write about him,” FINNEAS achingly sings throughout the powerful track.

Oh…did I mention he’s on tour with Billie Eilish? Playing guitar and opening her shows… because he’s her BROTHER. Somehow, amidst the fame chaos, he remains “low key” in his musical endeavors, not trying too hard to be seen. FINNEAS seems to genuinely be happy with making music – no matter the success. Grounded and mature are two words to describe the singer, songwriter, producer after watching a recent interview he did with his sister and Zane Lowe.

With a slew of impeccably produced singles under his belt, I can only hope FINNEAS is working on an album to be released sometime in the near future.

YouTube Picks!

I mean….her voice is still legendary.

This is such a great representation of what this song is about:

Every human on Earth needs to watch this music video. Halsey screams the anger so many women feel today in 2019.

This is a couple weeks old, but I love hearing the stories behind how songs were made. Billie is so honest with every word she says.

Friday Favorites!

Zane Lowe is my favorite interviewer. He allows artists to fully answer questions and he makes the whole interview feel more like a friendly conversation about the art of music and its impact on the artists themselves and the fans. If you don’t understand Billie Eilish, this interview might help:

News broke that Camila Cabello is going to star in the latest version of Cinderella! This will mark her acting debut, and the singer will have a big hand in the making of the soundtrack as well. The idea for this new adaptation came from late night host, James Corden.

Troye Sivan’s written homage to Ariana Grande as one of Time’s 100 most influential people is ADORABLE. Sivan is a true friend of the pop singer and this short beautiful dedication shows the world why Ariana is so impactful in music and our society.

Ahead of Earth Day on Monday, Lil Dicky released a fun and inspirational video as an ode to our Earth, featuring artists like Ariana Grande, Halsey, John Legend, Sia, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, and so many more! Each artist plays a different animal in what feels like a short animated film. I don’t know what possessed Lil Dicky to make this but it’s pretty funny and cool. Check it out below:

In the wake of Beyonce’s film Homecoming on Netflix, the iconic singer released merch to go along with her visuals from her 2018 historic Coachella performance. SWMRS: Keeping Punk Alive

If you haven’t heard of SWMRS, let me give you a glimpse into what it’s like to witness their insanely cool live show.

These Oakland, CA natives know how to throw a sick punk party. Starting off the show with their fun little tune, “Steve Got Robbed”, the crowd sang every word as the band took the stage ready to blow the roof off.

Four of the members played front and center with some huge guitar power, while the drummer (who is…of course…Billie Joe Armstrong’s son) kept the hard beats alive in the back.

Co-leader, Cole Becker flails around with Freddie Mercury-esque energy while wiping his sweaty bleach blonde hair out of his face and scream-shouting every harsh note. It’s easy to be entertained when Cole himself is such a show to watch.

They played several songs off their latest album, Berkeley’s On Fire, including “Lose, Lose, Lose,” “Trashbag Baby,” “Too Much Coffee,” and “Hellboy”. The band also performed the crowd favorite, and their 2015 hit, “Miley” while every tween shouted along.

Cole’s politically charged monologues spilled out throughout the set showing his support for the LGBTQ community, the Me Too movement, and how important it is to make a change in the world. “When you walked through the door, you joined a community. We gotta look out for eachother… and stop sexual assault.” He went on to motivate the crowd to stay hydrated and be safe; something not enough punk bands emphasize on.

The whole night felt like one big party full of pure fun. Not to mention, opening bands Destroy Boys and Beach Goons were fantastic starters to this hearty meal of music.
